on Tumblr, perceptive adjustments, & related stuff

* it’s official: Tumblr won. as you might remember, i started using the service some days ago, just after i read about the possibility of importing feeds, in the attempt to find a working alternative to about two or three lifestream abortions. the fact is: Tumblr is a tumblelog platform, and while i was at it, i started using the tool properly. and last monday i was in a bookshop, rushing through Temple Ball, flipping through Vintage PKD: and it just occurred to me why anthologies are important;

* and later in the evening, while driving through the rain and chatting with Laura, i started considering tumblelogs as living, metabolizing anthologies; ‘cos that’s what they basically are; and i suggest you to jump to this article by Jaschu for a load of interesting considerations re: the discussed media; and skip that now old Kottke article, & related comments; ‘cos they might be misleading; for the underlying nature of all this is partly about presence, in this day and age, and partly about a perceptual change in attention spanning; communication adapting to overload rather than brains blacking out;

* and the point being: tumblelogs are fun. they beat del.icio.us bookmarks, wordpress asides, flickr favorites, twitter fluttering and your own opml/blogroll, editing their way through all of the functions, all of the ultimate usefulness; and they are fast;

* so: my own tumblelog is up @ http://aineko.tumblr.com haze.tumblr.com; the layout owing a drink to Matt’s own matthasalotofideas; ‘cos i thought it was a nice idea to put a drawing in the header; ‘cos i draw all day, and it never makes it to public space;

* and the rest of the growth can be followed @ The Tumblelist: updated very frequently at this point, i guess;

* in other news: rest of the week i’ve been toying with the idea of starting a daily strip; i’ve already conquered a title, environmental variables and a crude sketch of characters. basically, in this overpopulated abode, only thing i need is a drawing space; if i can manage to draw at least three or four months worth of stuff, you’ll be hearing the rest of the story; if not, the shoggoth obviously would …
