Business Communication Course – One on Manners

OK, I admit it: I’m a bit pissed off today and on a rant, so bear with me. With all the talk about good communication, how come there is no business communication course on good manners? Aren’t manners a communication skill?

I’m not talking about the please and thank you we tell our children to say, though frankly even that would be nice.

I mean manners about responding to people’s emails, even if we have something less than positive to say or to simply share that we don’t know anything yet. And what happened to being courteous and returning phone calls?

Business Communication – Internal and External

Well, communication is one of the main activities on which all businesses and personal relations are dependent. In a couple of articles here we will establish the proper and reliable methods of communication both on an official level and also on a personal level.

Remember all relationships that gets born, grows and ultimately dies are dependent on communication or an absence of it. Thus proper communication between partners and business entities would help to not only create and develop a relationship, but also to bore fruits from the development for long term goals.

Identifying communication techniques on two levels: Business and Personal helps us perpetuate the benefits and understand the inter dependencies.

Asia Business Communication 101

Since the dawn of human civilization, culture and communication are intimately related. As a matter of fact, one cannot survive without the other, and one is formed because of the other. Each culture has its own unique background, assumptions, experiences, expectations and diverse perceptions about certain matter.

And when at least two cultures collide in any business transaction, it is always inescapable to have difficult communication (e.g. miscommunication and misinterpretation) or a simple failure to communicate altogether. Let’s take China and United States as examples since both have been doing business for decades and are in close proximity as to who will rule as the ultimate economic superpower.

These two countries have their own respective sets of business etiquette. Both have different backgrounds and history. Both are huge nations with a variety of people living in their territories. These people also have their own set of standards when doing business, locally or abroad.
